A 22-year-old lady lost 15 lbs one month ago after getting sick, and has noticed that her under eyes and cheeks seem to look more saggy. She wants to know if fillers can help.

New York oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon Amiya Prasad, M.D. reviews her concerns in this video, and explains how someone in their early 20s should allow for the body to fully recover after an illness before considering anything like fillers to address facial cosmetic issues:

1:41 — Dr. Prasad details his background training in cosmetic oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as his experience as a facial rejuvenation specialist

2:09 — The importance of understanding when one needs filler versus when one doesn’t

2:25 — How facial aging is associated with bone loss, fat loss and soft tissue loss

2:45 — How fillers on younger patients are usually done for genetic issues and beautification purposes

3:23 — Dr. Prasad advises to wait a year to allow the body to normalize and recover from sickness

4:43 — Dr. Prasad explains how filler in the tear trough can help with under eye hollowing

4:54 — How a procedure called Structural Volumizing helps with facial aging

5:09 — If bone structure is still intact after illness, it is likely the appearance will return to normal

5:39 — Dr. Prasad’s recommendation

Hey! I am 21 years old and my face has lost so much volume in the previous year and it's still not recovering. I have unintentional weight loss and my under eyes has developed dark circles and are sagging a bit. My cheeks are just totally hollowed out as a skeleton. I don't know what to do. I did few tests but everything turned out okay.

I’ve faced the same issue. However, I have a question – if we exercise do our cheeks go in?

I lost 70 pounds in a little over a year due to chronic stress. My under eyes and cheeks have descended downwards and made my laugh lines deeper. I’m 19, what treatment would you recommend?

hi, im 19 and about 2 years ago I lost 2 stone rapidly and my mid face has just seemed to drop. my face looks very pulled down as if im constantly tired, stressed and grumpy. the what look like large fat pouches around my mouth, especially the corners are really causing me a lot of mental stress. Since the weight loss, my weight has been up and down, poor diet and chronic stress. Is there any way that if perhaps I make lifestyle changes (such as healthy diet, exercise and good sleep) and the use of retinol that it may naturally improve ?

Hey, I wonder if you can answer some questions. I'm 23 years old and I have the exact same problem as her in the video, but for me the sagging is much more obvious on one side of my face. I look much older than my age and this is something that stresses me out every day. I haven't lost any weight or anything like that, I don't know the reason behind it, but what can I do? I don't want any fillers. Right now i'm doing three dermapen treatments but according to another video of yours dermapen cant produce volume. I went on a consultation with a plastic surgeon and he recommended fat injection under one eye. But that wouldn't lift the sagging skin next to my mouth which makes a harsh nasolabial line. I even thinking about a facelift. What can I do?Thank you.

Hi dr Amiya, is there a way I can get into contact with you, for the past couple of months I’ve been experiencing facial
Volume loss in the typical aging areas such as the upper eyelid cheeks and my lips and now my chin area has started to dissipate, my face constantly twitches everyday and I look so different to how I did 6 months ago, I’m only 23 years old and I’m not losing weight, I’m not sick ( tested subclinical low thyroid) and my only stress really is what is happening to my face ? Have you seen any young patients with similar symptoms so you could advise me as to what is happening to me ?

Hi i have had the exact same since getting the helicobacter and insomnia at 27 years old. I am 33 now and I cant get a full night sleep anymore. I can gane weight on my body but not in my face. I have been underweight for a long time and tried so many diets to sleep better but my bags and cheek apples cant fill. Will it change if i sleep better and feel less stressed? I have it for 5 years since i got insomnia from stopping medication. kind regards

I lost 15-20 pounds over the span of a few months. I started developing a very noticeable nasal fold on one side due to loss of volume. I currently have a Esophageal motility disorder that is making me lose weight. My appearance is very important to me since i was just getting into modeling just before the weight loss. I am in the process of getting my disorder treated. Should I wait until my issue is better and i start gaining weight again? Or should I get filler now to at least keep me from stressing? I am a 22 yr old male
